Hey Everyone!
I don't know about you, but as a Stay At Home Mum (SAHM) and Carer to my now adult daughter, I was starting to ask one question... How am I supposed to make a difference in my world for God?
A few weeks ago, I had that question answered pretty quickly after I started asking.
The short answer: Just be me!
It came as I was doing my daily Bible reading (I am following the reading plan in the back of my She Reads Truth bible). I was reading Colossians chapter 4 at the time. Verse 5 and 6 (which are now highlighted) say: Act wisely toward outsiders, making the most of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you should answer each person.
Just for a little background, when I am doing my daily bible reading, I have with me one of my older bibles I had from when I was a teenager which is an NIV Study Bible. This bible has notes in the margins that are from various commentaries and offers context and links to other parts of the bible.
This study bible had in the margin, said the following: Salt is a good metaphor for christian conversation and behaviour. Salt improves taste; in the same way, what believers say and do should leave a "good taste" for others. Salt also preserves food; christians should influence others for eternity with their grace-filled lives. Courteous, honest and compassionate, they should have the fruit of the spirit evident within them.
My story started with a conversation with someone I come into contact with on a regular basis. Just simply having a conversation, not necessarily about God, just about some of the things that we have been through as a family, ended up making an impression on this person. In this case, the response I got made me realise that, yes, as a stay at home mum, I can make a difference in people's lives for God without even realising what I am doing.
Another story is more recent, today in fact. We have support workers come and spend time with our daughter a few days a week. This morning, I had an album playing that has what I call Night Service Appropriate music. The person we had come today simply asked about the music and commented that she thought it sounded pretty cool. I just told her what it was to which she replied - It doesn't sound like church music.
I heard from one of my pastors years ago that every little conversation, every little connection we have with people around us, is planting a seed. While we pray for those people, keep the faith that God is working in their lives for good. We may not see an end result because that is not our job while we are here. Plant the seed and be available.
Thanks for reading!
