Kid's Chores!

Hey Guys!

Here is our way of getting the kiddos to help around the house!

First off, this does not happen the way I would like all the time. We all have times where it is really hard getting your kids to get involved in the house hold jobs and to be completely honest, I have been having a few weeks of this not working. The kids are about to finish off school holidays so things have been different.

To start with, I divided the house into 5 different zones as I have 5 kiddos able to help with the responsibilities.
These are:

Zone 1: Lounge room

Zone 2: Play room

Zone 3: Kitchen

Zone 4: Dining room

Zone 5: Bathroom

Each of the kids are assigned one zone and are working in that zone for a week.
The jobs within the zone are different for every developmental stage and changes with whatever needs to be done at that point in that zone.

Jobs for zone 1 may include: general tidy, vacuum rug, sweep floor, clean the coffee table and dust the shelves.

Zone 2 jobs are: pack away/sort the toys, sweep the mat, clean the top of the play kitchen, sweep the floor and clean the door.

For Zone 3 the kids unload/reload the dishwasher, clean the bench, sweep floors, put any dry dishes away that may be on the bench and tidy up the drawers.

Zone 4 jobs include: cleaning the place mats, wiping the table and chairs down, clean the high chair, and sweeping the floor.

And Zone 5 jobs are: putting the dirty clothes into the laundry after baths, wiping the bath tub out, cleaning down the basin, tidying up the toothbrushes, and cleaning the mirror. We have a separate toilet and bathroom so one of my daily jobs is to clean the toilet.

For each time the kids clean their zone, they get a tick on the chart, which allows them 5 minutes on the iPad on the weekend. We try to keep technology time on Saturdays only because Sunday is reserved for Church and Family time. On Saturday mornings, the kids also have to clean their rooms and make their beds. Then they vacuum their bedrooms and after that, they can go on technology. I do set the timer for however long they have earned and make sure the iPad is fully charged. They can also go on my husband's computer because he has games on there for them as well.

Hope you all enjoyed reading about how we do chores and tech time in our house!
I would love to hear how you guys get the kiddos to help around the house so please comment below!

Thanks for reading!

Organising School Uniforms

Hey Guys! When it comes to storing and sorting the kid's school uniforms, it seems we have FINALLY found what works for us! For those who don't know, we have 4 kiddos and my mum works at the kid's school as well, so her uniforms are also stored with the kid's uniforms.  Right next to my desk in the kid's playroom (pretty much only has Lego in it at the moment) we have a clothes rack. The only things that get put on the rack is school uniforms, shoes, the hair box (this keeps all the brushes, hair ties, head bands, etc. together in one place) and school socks.  So here is an overview of what the uniform rack looks like and then I will talk about the sections. We'll talk about hanging the uniforms first! Each person has their own colour coat hanger to make it easier for them to recognise which uniforms are theirs.  BB has pink. Knox has blue. TJ has purple. Liss has white.  Mum has black.  Yes, they are all mixed up at ...

Our Family Morning Routine

So, since this is the very first blog post, I thought we could start with our regular school term morning routine.  Our Morning Routine Our mornings get really busy and tend to go real fast due to the fact that we are a one car family and I have to take my husband to work every day. We are fortunate in that we also live with my mum so I do not have to get all the kids up and bring them with me.  So my day starts at 6am, when my alarm goes off and I keep pressing the snooze button until 6:30am mainly due to the fact that I am NOT a morning person. As soon as I do get up it is time to wake up the babies! First up, my 8 year old son. He usually wakes up pretty easily and I don't have to keep going back to get him out of bed. He is also the one who, when he feels helpful, gets the bowls out for breakfast along with the cereal.  Next is my 7 year old daughter. She can be a little tough to get up some mornings, but generally speaking she gets up within a few minutes of ...

Our Evening Routine

Hey everyone! So last week was our morning routine, this week is our evening routine! I will go from after school pick up because, like our morning routine, our evenings do tend to go fast as well. So after school, they have a small snack like a few Shapes biccies or some yoghurt or cheese depending on whether they had any dairy snacks in their lunch boxes that day. I do try to cook dinner or at least prep it (chop veggies etc.) before I go get the kids from school to make it easier on us during homework time. The kids have a bit of a run around after they eat to burn some energy off before they get their homework out. We have a fairly big backyard so there is plenty of space for them all to play. A favourite game of theirs lately, is Ninja Warrior. So they use things like the trees and the swing set and the trampoline and most important, their imaginations. After they have had about 15 to 20 minutes outside, they come in, have a drink of water and get their homework done. For...
